2023 Holiday Gift Guide

Michael Hughes / Thursday, November 30, 2023

Looking for a gift for your favorite river person? Maybe you are just building a list for your self. Check out our 2023 holiday gift guide.

Gifts Under $30

Gifts don’t have to be big, flashy, and expensive. Maybe you just do small gifts, stocking stuffers, or a gift exchange.

Having a couple solar lights in your kit is always helpful. The most popular ones seem to be the Goal Zero Crush Light and the classic Luci Light. They are great for in your tent, around camp, and even on the path to the groover!

Mesh Wallet and Luci Light

Mesh Wallet and Luci Light

Sturdy Pines mesh wallet is perfect for storing anything small but important. Having a few of them can help keep your day bag organize. I like to use them to keep my charger cords organized. Also helpful place to put spare keys and money in your day bag for when you have a little shuttle mishap.

Having patched up gear seems to be a badge of honor for many in the outdoors. Tenacious Tape is some of the best stuff for patching up all those bon fire burns in your favorite puffy jacket. Also it will class up your look a little bit.

The National Wildlife Federation Field Guide To Trees of North America is one of my favorite books for identifying trees. It is filled with lots of great photos, descriptions, and is easy to use.

You would have a hard time finding someone in your life that wouldn't love and number of locking Carabiners. There are many options out there but we like this one from Rock Exotica.

Gifts $50 - $100

Maybe you are looking to spend a little more but still get something everyone should love.

I have a few of these Jack’s Plastic Welding collapsible buckets with I had more. We like this because it is handy on a river trip for both using as a bucket, and going “shopping” on the boats in the cooler and dry boxes. It is also handy as a bag on the go in everyday life.4

Polartec Power Wool is my new favorite light weight technical fabric. Immersion Research GraviTee shirt is light weight, breathable, and order resistant. My new go to shirt for everything really.

Changing robe and Power Wool

TheRiver Station Changing Robe is perfect for staying modest while changing out of wet river clothes after a lap on your favorite local run. Also works well for lounging around the house on a lazy day!

My long time favorite river nice has been the Gerber EZ Out knife It is a pretty simple non flashy knife that any boater will be excited about.

Honorable Mentions

Here are a few other gifts that we love and wanted to share.

  • Stanley Trigger Action Travel Mug - the trigger lid makes it so you can take a drink with one hand with ease
  • Spyderco Assist FRN knife - a bit on the expensive side but worth every penny
  • Full Moon Camp Booties - who doesn’t want toasty feet at camp??

Michael Hughes

Michael grew up in the small Minnesota town of Stewartville. He spent his days outside in the woods and riding a bike. The only thing that has changed is his location. Oregon is now home and he is still outside, riding a bike, and paddling where ever the water is.
